Baptist Theological Seminary

Patate Ecuador

Brief History

Worldwide attention turned to Ecuador missions after Jim Eliot and 4 other missionaries were killed by the Auca Indians. His wife returned and today most Aucas have been baptized. This story was immortalized in the book, Through Gates of Splendor.
Missionaries Steve and Carol Thompson have been serving in Ecuador for over twenty years. For a long time they have felt a heavy burden to establish a Baptist Theological Seminary in the Patate region of Ecuador. By January 2010 their dream began to be fulfilled when the first floor of the pastoral training center was started. In 2018 ten students received a Diploma in Basic Bible and Theological Studies and 12 received a Master in Theological Education as an online degree from Southwestern Seminary. Some of these graduates are now serving as professors at the Ecuadorian seminary
